Kwanzaa was created in 1966 by Maulana Karenga during the aftermath of the Watts riot. Kwanzaa’s creation was based on the African harvest festival tradition. The holiday starts on December 26 and ends on January 1. Kwanzaa is built on seven principles and if applied, social values as a community will be improved.
