Surprisingly the Knicks got it right this time around. Brunson is averaging 25 points 6 assists and 4 rebounds this season for the Knicks and the team currently hold the 5th seed in the Eastern Conference. Brunson scored 50 points on the Phoenix Suns in just 35 minutes, last night, helping his team defeat the Suns 139-122.
Despite many NBA players avoiding the pressure of playing for the New York Knicks, Jalen Brunson had no problem signing a 4-year, $100 million contract with the team. The Knicks successfully lured Brunson away from the Dallas Mavericks, who had offered him a four-year deal worth $55 million. This is not a criticism of the Mavericks, as sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. However, it is a testament to the Knicks’ determination to acquire Brunson. They wanted him so badly that they even hired his father, former NBA player Rick Brunson, to work within the organization.
If I had to rate the top three free agent signings of the Knicks from 2000 to now, (meaning players that came from another team) I would say Jalen Brunson Julius Randolph, and Amare Stoudemire. Brunson is on his way to making his first all-star game appearances and on course to make that 25 million he’s making from the Knicks look like a bargain for them.
