On Christmas Day in 1984, Bernard King of the New York Knicks set a record by scoring 60 points in a game against the New Jersey Nets. This is the highest score any NBA player has ever achieved on Christmas Day. King was one of the greatest scorers in NBA history but was plagued with injuries that prevented him from finishing as one of the top five scorers in the league’s history. For instance, he missed the entire 1985-86 season after tearing a ligament in his right leg. The following year King only played six games before moving on to the Washington Bullets.
Bernard King had a successful stint with the Washington Bullets, playing for four years. During the 1987-88 season, he averaged 17 points per game, followed by 20.7 points per game in the next season. In the 1989-90 NBA season, he played all 82 games and averaged over 22 points for the Bullets. In his final season with the team, King averaged 28.4 points per game, which earned him a spot in his fourth NBA All-Star Game.
Bernard King scored 16, 665 points for his career and was abducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 2013.
