From Humble Beginnings in Texas
Darion and Varion Walton, identical twin brothers from Jewett, Texas, grew up in a low-income, single-parent household. Raised by their hardworking mother, Sophia, the brothers learned early on the value of perseverance, discipline, and education. Despite facing health challenges and financial hardship, they never let their circumstances define their future.
Early Jobs and Determination
By age 16, both brothers were working at Brookshire Brothers, quickly rising to management roles while still in high school. Their ability to balance academics, work, and family responsibilities sets them apart from their peers.
Academic Excellence
The twins began their higher education at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, where they each earned associate degrees magna cum laude. At Navarro, they were active in student leadership, mentoring programs, and honor societies.
Their success continued at Sam Houston State University, where they were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the top honor society for business students. They earned bachelor’s degrees while continuing to work multiple jobs and volunteer in their community.
Harvard Achievement
Against the odds, both Darion and Varion earned Master’s degrees from Harvard University by the age of 22 — two years ahead of schedule. This milestone not only marked a personal triumph but also broke barriers for young Black men from rural Texas communities.
Giving Back: Walton Inspires
Remembering the mentors and opportunities that helped them succeed, the twins co-founded Walton Inspires, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering underprivileged youth through mentorship, tutoring, leadership development, and scholarships. Their mission is to help others realize that no dream is too big when paired with hard work and resilience.
What’s Next
Darion is pursuing a path in educational leadership, while Varion focuses on healthcare administration. Both continue to inspire others through public speaking, mentorship, and their nonprofit work.
